Project 4
Iditarod Poster
For this typography poster project, we focused solely on using type and type manipulation to convey a theme. I chose the Iditarod race in Alaska as my subject, using cool colors and a blurry type effect to capture the sense of speed and motion. It was challenging working without any images, and at first, I struggled to get the right feeling for the event. After some trial and error, I decided to start over and rethink my approach. I ended up creating a hand-drawn typeface that mimics sled tracks, which helped tie the design more closely to the spirit of the race.
Second Update
Update
I first started with a poster that felt super lighthearted and kid-like, with a playful hand-drawn font, light pastel colors, and fun shapes. (poster on the right) I decided that wasn’t the feel I wanted my poster to have, so I did a full 180 and decided to restart from there. (The middle poster) I came up with a new concept with more type manipulation. Once I finished this project, I went back to revise it once more. I took out all the black type and switched it for a creamish yellow. I moved the title to the top, making it more legible and moving around the grid of the poster.
