Intaglio Printing with Aquatint
This print was a project I completed for my Printmaking class. The assignment was to create an intaglio print with aquatint with the theme of “fairy tail”. I chose to base mine off the Grimms’ Brother story of the Juniper Tree.
The Process
Intaglio printing with aquatint is a technique where a metal plate is coated with rosin powder, heated to create a porous texture, and then etched with acid. The longer areas are exposed to acid, the darker they print. This creates tonal effects similar to watercolor washes in the final print.
